Introduction to Quantum Computing (engl.)
The United Nations proclaimed 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, underscoring the recent, and accelerating, expansion of quantum computing. The goal of this course is to give students an introduction to quantum computing and to equip them with the basic mathematical and programmatic tools needed to stay informed about its scientific progress. The course will begin with a broad overview of the field and its applications. The rest of the morning sessions will focus on a review of basic algebra and on building a basic quantum mechanical terminology. In the afternoon, students will learn fundamental quantum computing concepts and basic quantum algorithms. Later sessions will include a practical quantum program writing exercise using Quantinuum programming languages. The course will end with a demonstration of simple problem in computational chemistry using quantum computing.
Level 1-3: open to everybody, with or without experience
Requirements: your own laptop, prior experience in python programming, basic algebra
Dr. Ludmila Szulakowska
Dr. Ludmila Szulakowska completed her PhD in Physics of nano-materials at the University of Ottawa, Canada. Later, she was an NSERC postdoctoral fellow studying optics in low dimensions. New emerging technologies inspired her to pursue a research position at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, working on machine learning and quantum computing for nano-materials. She joined Quantinuum Inc. in 2025, where she leads the software development of quantum computing algorithms for condensed matter physics. Dr. Szulakowska has also over 15 years of experience in science outreach and scientific community building. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, world music and photography.
