Cybersecurity, programming with Python and MATLAB, building robots, programming sensors and learning to speak freely – Positive outcome of the informatica feminale BW at the University of Freiburg
"Highly qualified lecturers on equal footing, great exchange at every corner," is how one participant describes what she particularly liked about the Summer School Informatica Feminale Baden-Württemberg.
Around 110 female students and professionals, mainly from the field of computer science, participated in 17 current technical and social skills courses from 30th July to 3rd August 2024. In addition to the courses, some of which lasted several days, several talks and workshops were held. Among other things, the participants learnt about the "magic of feedback" and how to market themselves in the application process. In the Summer Tech Talk with SICK AG, dedicated tech women gave an insight into their careers at the sensor manufacturer from Waldkirch.
Fun after a hard days work
The educational program was rounded off with a myriad of supporting social programs that included plenty of fun: At the Charleston taster session, the women were able to hit the dance floor and at "IT creative" they were able to try their hand at acrylic painting. The networking evening was not the only opportunity for the participants to network. New contacts were also made and existing ones strengthened in a relaxed atmosphere in the event's own pop-up cafeteria.
The participants were enthusiastic about the courses and supporting social program, and many of them have made firm plans to attend again next time. Next year, informatica feminale BW will take place for the 25th time, and the responsible network Frauen.Innovation.Technik will also be celebrating its 25th anniversary.
After the Summer School is before the Winter School
Preparations are already underway for the meccanica feminale - the counterpart for female students and professionals, particularly from the fields of engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and medical technology. The Winter School will take place at the University of Stuttgart from February 18 to 22, 2025. Both university weeks by women for women are organized by the Frauen.Innovation.Technik network based at Furtwangen University. The events take place on behalf of and with the financial support of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts.
