Fachkurs: MF23-H28 - Basics of biomedical imaging and its application in (bio)medicine

Requirements: keine

Participants: 12

Credit Point (ECTS): -

This course covers the basics of biomedical imaging and the importance to study biology at all the different biological scales - ranging from molecules, to cells and whole organisms. We will learn the principles of different biomedical imaging techniques together with their key strengths and weaknesses and aquire an overview of the main classes of imaging agents. Further, we will discuss how biomedical imaging is used in biomedical research as well as the clinic and how it can help to answer biological and clinical questions.

Dr. Judith Weber

Dr. Judith Weber studied Biomedical Chemistry at the Johannes Gutenberg-University of Mainz with a research stay at Stanford University (US) in the group of Dr. S. S. Gambhir. During that time, she became fascinated by the field of biomedical imaging and continued with a PhD at University of Cambridge (UK) with Dr. S. Bohndiek focusing on new contrast agents for photoacoustic imaging and high-resolution microscopy in the field of oncology and neurology. Afterwards, Judith took up a position as senior scientist at AbbVie focusing on preclinical imaging ligand development and their evaluation in the field of neuroscience. She then expanded her knowledge in the imaging field as scientific service support manager at the new Imaging Centre of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg. Currently, she is a project lead at 3B-Pharmaceuticals in Berlin focusing on the design and evaluation of new molecules to improve the biodistribution and effect of diagnostic and therapeutic compounds and radiopharmaceuticals. Throughout her career, she was greatly involved in demonstrating and teaching students in different subjects and at different universities, whereby her focus was always placed on biomedicine and related subjects.
