Why intercultural awareness is crucial in STEM professions
Formulas are universal, as are programming languages – but what about the people you work with? In international projects, you will quickly realise this: Intercultural awareness is crucial for success. Because if communication doesn’t work, the project will fail.
Whether in an international team or with global partners – your ability to recognise and integrate cultural differences avoids misunderstandings and ensures a positive, productive working atmosphere.
Cultural sensitivity is a must-have to be successful in the global working world. Become a professional – not only in your field, but also in dealing with other cultures!
In our practice-orientated workshop you will learn
• How cultural imprinting affects communication (verbal and non-verbal)
• What the different ways of thinking and behaving are (stereotyping and its causes)
• How to avoid and master conflicts in international work situations
• How AI can be used for cultural understanding
• How to present successfully and with strong communication skills in international projects
The lecturers Prof. Dipl.-Des. Susanne P. Radtke and Dr. phil. Anni Peller have been working together on intercultural projects for many years.

Prof. Dipl.-Des. Susanne P. Radtke
Susanne P. Radtke war von 2002 bis 2023 Professorin an der Hochschule Ulm mit Lehr- und Forschungsschwerpunkten in den Bereichen Mediendesign und Internationales. Seit 2009 leitet sie interkulturelle Workshops in Südostasien, Europa und den USA. (www.intercultural-design-workshop.com). In ihren Publikationen, darunter „Intercultural Design Basics. Advancing Cultural and Social Awareness Through Design“, legt sie besonderen Wert auf Perspektivenvielfalt und Praxisnähe.
Susanne P. Radtke, a professor at the University of Applied Sciences Ulm (2002–2023), specialized in media design and international affairs. Since 2009, she has led intercultural workshops across Southeast Asia, Europe, and the USA. Her publications include Handbuch visuelle Mediengestaltung and Intercultural Design Basics. Radtke emphasizes diverse perspectives, engagement, and practical relevance in her teaching.

Dr. Anni Peller
Ich bin Ethnologin und Anthropologin. Seit 1993 forsche ich bei den Arbore in Südäthiopien (arbore.de). Meine Schwerpunkte liegen in den Bereichen Alltagskultur, interkulturelle Kommunikation und Gesundheit.
Von 2000 bis 2016 war ich als Dozentin und wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin an den Fachbereichen Ethnologie und Humanbiologie tätig. Seit 2009 arbeite ich als Referentin in Workshops zur kultursensiblen Kommunikation für Mitarbeitende im Gesundheits- und Sozialwesen und als Wissenschaftskommunikatorin mit dem Schwerpunkt Humanontogenetik. Mein Interesse gilt der Förderung interkultureller Verständigung und der praxisorientierten Anwendung sozialanthropologischer Erkenntnisse.
