University Assistant (postdoc)
Universität Innsbruck
from 01.08.2025
The Institute for Astro- and Particle Physics at the University of Innsbruck invites applications for a 4-year post-Doc position in the field of early stellar evolution.
The post-Doc will join the research group on “Stellar evolution and asteroseismology” led by Prof. Konstanze Zwintz. The group focuses on a better description of the physical processes acting in the pre-main sequence evolutionary stages with a particular emphasis on constraining the interior structures of young stars from their pulsations.
As a post-Doc you will be able to lead your own projects, but are also expected to contribute to already ongoing work in the field of theoretical modeling of early stellar evolution. Your contract also includes 4 hours per week of teaching.
Your work will revolve around
– the improvement of theoretical models for protostars and pre-main sequence stars with the aim to connect the models with asteroseismic methods and to study the early evolution of planets.
– calculations of theoretical models of early stellar evolution with accretion and improvement of existing methods.
– a qualified cooperation on international research topics within the group.
– preparatory work for the ESA-mission PLATO.
– publication of own research results in international peer-reviewed journals.
– presentations at international conferences.
– supervision of bachelor and master students.
– independent teaching and holding of examinations
Required qualifications:
– PhD in astronomy or physics with a focus on astronomy/ astrophysics.
– Research experience in astronomy/astrophysics with a focus on early stellar evolution.
– Experience in computational and theoretical astrophysics.
– Experience in the modelling of protostellar disks highly desirable.
– Knowledge about variable accretion and its effect on stellar evolution highly desirable.
– Experience in the usage of state-of-the-art astronomical software.
– Interest to work in an active research group with strong international cooperations.
– Confident use of Linux-based computer systems.
– Excellent knowledge of English.
– Teamwork skills in collaborations with international research teams highly desirable.
– Excellent problem-solving skills.
– Excellent self-management.
